Everyone who had a chance of reading Frank Darabont's interview to io9 is surely thrilled about his interpretation of Godzilla. "a metaphor for Hiroshima and Nagasaki" and "the giant terrifying force of nature" are definitely the words that resume Darabont's description of Godzilla, and I'm genuinely happy and surprised that Mr. Frank has such a clear view over the King of the Monsters!
So now after reading this interview I'm more eager than ever to see how Legendary's Godzilla franchise will look like, but it seems so far we have a well-structured script, that honors Godzilla's roots and symbology and studies the impact of nuclear weapons use on us humans, without compromising the action/rampage scenes (and I'm expecting a full-pack of them, as we already know that Godzilla will have the company of two brand new giant monsters!)
I think now it's the perfect time to bring a question that I already had the chance to talk with some of you, but never dropped it on the group's blog: what are your expectations regarding this new american Godzilla flick? Please leave your opinion!
DID YOU KNOW?...
OK, I don't wanna state this as official but...have you ever questioned why, after the 1998 film, Toho decided to send Godzilla back to Hollywood, selling its rights to Legendary, and more, justifying their decision stating that the people who work at Legendary are real fans of Toho's Gojira films and their capable of honoring the origins of Gojira and make a movie which will please the fan-base?
Well...Legendary Pictures was founded in 2000 by Thomas Tull, but just in 2005 they signed a contract to co-produce and co-finance 40 films with Warner Bros. So how the company survived during these 5 years?
Guess what...search for your old Pokemon/Miyazaki films in your room...and if it is the English dubbed version, you can thank Legendary. Yes, Legendary is responsible for dubbing and distributing Toho films in the US. The two companies are partners since 2000. Was this significant when Toho decided which US production company would take Godzilla rights?
